HOST: Bad Midwest feminist listeners, I am desperately excited for you to listen in on my conversation with Sister Mara Faulkner, a Benedictine sister, at St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota. I drove up there with my mom. Shoutout to her, by the way, for holding my camera while I shot my reel footage around the monastery, which was just gorgeous, by the way.

Sister Mara grew up in Mandan, North Dakota, to a farm family with a genetic condition which slowly degraded their eyesight. A lot of my questions stemmed from her memoir, “Going Blind,” which I read in preparation for our conversation, which, in addition to covering her family history and the series of events which led her to becoming a nun, also deep-dived into Sister Mara’s personal reflections about feminism, hard-working women, and the patriarchy. So let’s get into it.
