Mash UP: Episode 3 | Urban Plains

Mash UP: Episode 3

Mash UP brings two Midwest artists or bands together to do one thing: create something new. Musicians have an hour to mix their styles and come up with an original song, tweak an existing track or work out a cool cover. After the hour is up, Urban Plains captures the performance. This week: SIRES and MAIDS.

MAIDS

For the Midwest-based disco duo MAIDS, collaboration is nothing new. Singer Danny Heggen writes songs on guitar and sends the vocal track to MAIDS’ other half, Mickey Davis. Davis immerses the vocals in waves of electronic-dance pop, creating their distinct sound. MAIDS has been performing and DJing at dance parties since they started working together in 2012. They’re releasing their second EP, “These Days” soon, but for now, they make an appearance on Mash UP, collaborating with Sires on a cover of George Harrison’s, “Got My Mind Set on You.”

SIRES

SIRES knows rock ‘n’ roll. Dylan Sires, along with Ross Klemz (drums) and Graham Howland (bass), reinvents rock sounds of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Since their formation in 2012, SIRES has released two albums and toured all over Iowa and the greater-Midwest. SIRES is known for their high-energy shows and Beatles-esque vibe, making them a perfect match for MAIDS on Mash UP. Together they perform George Harrison’s, “Got My Mind Set on You.”
